How hosting company tricks ?
Hosting business has a cut throat competition in today’s internet world. Merely somebody survives. And this is the reason most of them tries anything to stand in the market. They not only provide wrong information, false commitments rather they cheat their customers in every step. Actually they take undue advantages of lack of knowledge of their customers about this very technical domain web-hosting mechanism.
In this article, my intention is to aware people about the web hosting and domain registration services so that they do not fall into cheap hands.
Attractive or heavy website is not a certificate of a good company.
Higher price does not guarantee that you will get better or more.
Beware of extremely low charges.
Things below their standard charges are not possible unless there are some adjustments are being done with other service charges. I have seen many service providers give some services at very low price, people don’t know there are standard expenses for every service they are provided.
Huge Hosting space
Don’t tend to get as much as possible. Know your requirements instead. If 20 MB of space is more than sufficient for you. What is the meaning of buying space in GBs. Unlimited space
Believe me there is nothing unlimited. Some providing Unlimited hosting space, Unlimited Transfer, Unlimited e-mails, Unlimited databases. They might allow you huge occupation, transfer or anything but remember that you must think about your needs.
Vendors provide such things to attract new customers as they might think it is all unlimited, now no botheration is there and no more comparison required. I tell those people whenever there is a huge profit, there is a huge risk present.
Data Transfer
There is a possibility if a vendor plays trick with data transfer limits. Some customers do not know what it is and how can it affect their account. If you have not chosen proper data transfer limits for your website, you may have to pay extra for the same. Usually this is not a very risky place as I have not seen this type of trick at many places. Even though I give you a general assumption-
You can not pre assume how many people are going to visit your site. And so I suggest you to think about your type of business and have an idea about your requirements
For small medium enterprises, small and medium websites not dealing with media download, data download things can thought of maximum data transfer limit up to 200 MB. If it is 500 MB or 1 GB or higher, it is better. Generally 500 MB of traffic is not seen in a regular business / small /static website.
See the bandwidth consumption / data transfer log of your website for first two months and then re-set your data transfer limit accordingly.
E-mails
Check your requirements of company e-mail IDs. Some vendors provide very few e-mails or e-mail space as customer is focused only on hosting space and transfer and price. And later on when he feels to have more e-mails he asked to pay more. Generally for normal websites 5-10 e-mails are sufficient. This is a requirement you are already known of so better talk to the vendor for your special requirements.
Control Panel
You must have any control panel provided with the hosting package. With this control panel you can manage your account, mails , file transfers, logs and do much more.
Database
If you are going to have a database driven website or portal or e-commerce or a bit interactive website, you must have a database facility with your hosting package. Now it is up to you that what type of database is suitable to you like MySql, MS Access, SQL Server etc.
You must match the database size limits with your requirements.
Compatibility/ facilities
Ask your web designer to prepare a list of technical requirements and match if they all available with the hosting package or not.
Post limit charges
Remember, you can be charged higher for same services if go beyond their limits. So it is better if you extend your plan if it gets near to the limits.
Beware of coupons.
Most people do not understand and quickly gets attracted by limited period offers. Coupons does the same like spring, summer or winter coupon feeds in your mind that charges are down for some period of time.
Enable/installation/Turn On Charges
Beware of these charges. I have seen many vendors show very good plans with very attractive prices but recover their money by charging customers after sale with these dirty tricks.
Hidden charges
Hidden charges may fall on to you in any form and that’s why they are called hidden. They can be in the form on installation charges, billing charges, control panel charges, account creation charges etc.
Better if you ask your chosen vendor before purchase.
Tech support
Vendor must provide good and quick technical support to you.
